Judging Criteria and Winner Selection
The "judging" is expo-style, where judges will walk around to your tables and you show them what you have done. You have a lot of flexibility here, but I would recommend focusing on a clear narrative and a compelling demo. The judges are AI investors and will be looking for impressive and impactful projects. In addition, there will be an "audience choice" where the project with the most audience votes will get to be onstage.
There is no requirement to have a fully functional product. That may be hard to do in a week. However, the more "real" the project you have built, the higher the impact. Being able to point attendees to something so they can try it themselves is much higher impact.
The goal is to be collaborative rather than competitive. If everyone ends up building great projects, and they are inspired enough to keep working on them beyond AI Build Week and release them to the world, that is a huge success for everyone involved. There is no one "winner" of AI Build Week. Everyone who builds something they are proud of and connects with others at the conference who get excited about it too (and might want to push it forward) are winners here.
